    主要从事生物多样性演化、形成和维持机制的研究,包括植物分类学与系统发育、物种形成与适应性进化、种质资源遗传评价、群落构建与进化生态以及保护遗传学等研究,在“DNA条形码、谱系地理学和物种形成等研究中取得重要进展。立足我国西南生物多样性热点地区,将微观和宏观相结合,综合运用多学科手段重点研究了杜鹃属和红豆杉属的分类、系统发育、物种形成、谱系地理和保护遗传学。系统开展了红豆杉属和杜鹃属等重要类群的DNA条形码筛选和评价,共同提出了植物DNA条形码新标准;明确了综合分类学研究的新思路,澄清了分类困难类群红豆杉属等的分类学疑难问题;揭示了红豆杉属多个物种的谱系分化历史和现代地理分布格局成因。与英国、美国、加拿大和澳大利亚等国的学者开展合作研究。迄今PNASNew PhytologistMolecular EcologyDiversity and DistributionsMolecular Ecology and Resources等期刊发表论文70多篇,其中SCI期刊收录论文40多篇,参加编写专著4部,译著1近年来主持国家基金委国际(地区)合作与交流重大项目、国家自然科学基金面上项目、国家科技基础性工作专项、973项目专题、中国科学院重要方向性项目和西部之光重点项目等近20多项。现任《Plant Diversity》、《生物多样性》编委,为African Journal of Agricultural Research, African Journal of Botany, Annales Botanici Fennici, Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, Biodiversity Science, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, Conservation Genetics, Ecology and Evolution, Heridity, Journal of Systematic and Evolution, HortSciene, Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, Journal of Plant Ecology, New phytologist, Nordic Journal of Botany, Plant Diversity, Plant Ecology, PLoS ONE, Molecular Ecology, Molecular Ecology Resources, Scientific report, Systematics and Biodiversity, Taxon, Tree Genetics and Genomes 等杂志审稿人。

研究领域:

中国重要植物类群的DNA条形码研究:系统开展我国重要类群,如红豆杉科、杜鹃花科等的DNA条形码研究,建立这些属种的DNA条形码标准数据库,完成这些类群“iFlora”的基本框架研制,为“iFlora 研究计划的研制提供资料和数据。此外,以高黎贡山和丽江玉龙雪山为研究地点,设立跨环境梯度的多个样方,利用DNA条形码技术开展群落系统发育和群落构建机制研究,揭示在全球气候变化情景下植物群落物种组成的变化与维持机制。 

重要类群的系统发育与物种形成研究:运用多分子片段和基因组数据(如叶绿体全基因组和简化基因组)和化石标定开展山茱萸目、杜鹃花目(特别是杜鹃属)、红豆杉科和胡桃科等重要类群的系统发育重建和时空演化格局研究;利用分子标记和第二代基因组测序技术,综合多学科方法开展红豆杉属的物种形成、谱系分化和保护遗传学研究;同时选择杜鹃属代表性物种,利用新一代测序技术(如简化基因组和转录组测序)开展杜鹃属物种形成和适应性进化机制研究。
