    主要从事植物进化生态学研究,运用多种技术手段探讨植物的繁殖生态学和植物色彩进化领域的科学问题。曾利用中国-喜马拉雅蓝特有的钟花属植物为研究材料阐明其性系统进化格局、单性个体在群体中的维持、性二态的维持及花冠闭合的诱因和影响等繁殖生态学问题。目前专注于植物色彩进化的问题,一方面从流石滩植物与其天敌(取食者)的关系入手,探讨了植物防御性色彩(伪装)的适应意义和进化过程。首次从收支权衡的角度阐明了植物伪装色彩的适应意义,并揭示了伪装色彩的局部适应格局和生理学、生态学基础,提出了植物伪装色彩的一般性研究框架。另一方面,着眼于植物与其朋友(花粉或种子传播者)的关系,在较大尺度上开展花色进化方面的研究。并与英国和作者开展植物防御性色彩进化方面的合作研究。迄今在New Phytologist, Annals of Botany, Plant Signaling and Behavior, Scientific Reports, PLoS ONE, Journal of Systematics and Evolution等学术期刊发表论文二十余篇;在《博物》、《中国国家地理》、《大自然》等大众科学期刊发表图文科普作品若干。
研究领域:

高山植物繁殖策略:立足我国西南高山地区,整合一切可能的手段,探讨特征类群的传粉机制、性系统进化及多样性格局,揭示其进化生态学意义。

植物色彩的进化:利用数码图像和光谱数据,结合多种动物视觉模型和生理生态方法,探讨植物色彩进化的格局和过程。以传粉者或取食者的视角定量评估色彩,在特定动植物互作关系的背景下探讨在防御和吸引的双重要求下植物的色彩如何进化。
